CHICAGO — The Chicago Marathon is Sunday, and for now, that can only mean one thing: street closures.

Three streets near Grant Park will be closed starting 10 a.m. Friday.

Congress Parkway will be closed from Michigan Avenue to Columbus Drive. Jackson Boulevard will be closed from Michigan to Columbus. And Columbus will be closed from Monroe Street to Congress Parkway.

Those streets will reopen at 7 p.m. Sunday, according to the city.

On Tuesday, Balbo Avenue was closed from Michigan to Lake Shore Drive, city officials said. Jackson will be closed from Columbus to Lake Shore Drive until Wednesday.

Columbus will be closed between Roosevelt Road and Congress by Saturday morning, the closed stretch will stretch all the way to Randolph Street.

The streets are expected to reopen by about 4:30 p.m. Sunday "or when it is deemed safe," the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications said.

Columbus will remain closed until 6 a.m. Monday morning, officials said.

Parking will also be prohibited along the race route Sunday. Public transportation is encouraged for those heading to see the race or anywhere near the route

The marathon is one of the city's marquee tourist events, drawing thousands of runners from around the world. The race starts and finishes in Grant Park, but goes as far north as Addison Street and south to 35th Street.

Last year's marathon delivered a $277 million impact to local businesses, marathon sponsor Bank of America said last week.
