BRIDGEPORT — Fifty years ago, Mao Zedong launched the decade-long Cultural Revolution in China — an era that had a lasting impact on the country's modern art movement.

Some of the most profound pieces to surface during the revolution were propaganda posters. Art enthusiasts from all over the city will soon get a chance to see those posters in original form.

An opening reception is set for 6-9 p.m. Oct. 14 at the Co-Prosperity Sphere, 3219 S. Morgan St., for "The Red Art: Propaganda Posters from The Cultural Revolution (1966-1976)." The exhibit will showcase original prints and posters from the Cultural Revolution.

"Although the posters were a tool for politics, they truly contained and condensed the enormous energies of the masses," said exhibit's curator, Qigu Jiang, in a statement. "They objectively criticized and overthrew the old art forms."
