ROSELAND — A 21-year-old woman died and a 22-year-old man was hurt after being caught in the crossfire of a shooting in Roseland early Monday afternoon, police said.

Around 2 p.m., the man and woman were standing in the 10600 block of South State Street when two groups of men nearby began shooting at each other, according to Officer Kevin Quaid, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The woman was shot in her left side and brought to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, Quaid said. She was later pronounced dead.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified her as Adrianna Mayes, of the same block.

The man brought himself to Roseland Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said.

A toddler was also "on scene" of the shooting, but was not hurt, Quaid said.

No one was in custody, police said.
