CHICAGO — A 32-year-old man was shot to death while two others were wounded in separate Austin attacks early Monday, according to police.

At 3:34 a.m., a 32-year-old man and a 26-year-old man were in the 100 block of North Central Avenue when shots rang out, police said. The 32-year-old was shot in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man was identified as Samuel Michael Rockett Jr., of suburban Bellwood, in Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records. Rockett was pronounced dead at 4:06 a.m. and an autopsy showed he died of a gunshot wound in his head in a homicide.

The 26-year-old man was shot in his neck, chest and jaw and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, according to police.

An hour before that, at 2:33 a.m., a 38-year-old man was shot during a robbery attempt in Austin, police said.

He was walking in the 5200 block of West August Boulevard when someone walked up to him and announced a robbery. The man tried to push the robber away and began to run when the robber fired shots, police said.

The man was struck in his foot and was brought to West Suburban Hospital, where his condition wasn't released but police considered him to be stable.

No arrests have been made in either case, police said.
