SCOTTSDALE — The death of a 20-year-old man believed to have been gunned down in Scottsdale last month has been ruled a suicide, police said.

At 6:10 a.m. Sept. 25, Omar Rangel, 20, was found dead in a parked car in the 8200 block of South Scottsdale Avenue, police said at the time.

Officers found Rangel with gunshot wounds in his head and chest, according to Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Rangel, of the 8400 block of South Kilbourn Avenue, was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m., according to Cook County Medical Examiner's Office records.

The medical examiner's office determined the death to be a homicide, but a police death investigation uncovered new evidence confirming that he shot himself, authorities said.

The medical examiner's office changed its records accordingly, a spokeswoman said.
