7 Things To Do In Uptown And Andersonville This Weekend

UPTOWN AND ANDERSONVILLE — Looking for a reason to get off the couch? Uptown and Andersonville will host a Haitian Olympic swimmer, a music festival and art opening receptions this weekend.

Here is our list of seven things to do in the neighborhoods this weekend:

Meet Haiti's First Female Olympic Swimmer: The Haitian American Museum on Friday will host Naomy Grand'Pierre, Haiti's first female Olympic swimmer. During "The Art of Being an Olympian," Pierre will share her success story and explain her role in helping revitalize competitive swimming in the country. You can order tickets by clicking here. Suggested donation of $5. 6-9 p.m. Friday. 4654 N. Racine Ave.

Opening Reception For 'Transparency': Everybody's Coffee will host an opening reception for "Transparency," an exhibit by Robin Monique Rios. For more information on the exhibit click here. Free. 6-8 p.m. Friday. 935 W. Wilson Ave.

Off-Kilter Pop-up: FLATS studio on Friday will host a pop-up show curated by Off-Kilter magazine, which describes itself as "an intimate movement of artists, designers and seekers of individual truth." Artists for the event include Brittney Leeanne Williams, Jesus Hilario-Reyes, Niko, Darryl Terrell, Lyntuan Jones and Alex Carter. Drinks wil be available for guests. Safe In Sound Festival: The Aragon Ballroom will host the Safe In Sound Festival Friday night. Performers include Borgore, Dirtyphonics, Boombox Cartel, Party Thieves and Trampa. Tickets for the fest are $28 and available here. 18 and older. 9 p.m. Friday Aragon Ballroom, 1106 W. Lawrence Ave.

Enjoy A Community Bike Ride: As a warm-up to Clarendon Park's centennial celebration, Slow Roll Chicago will host a bike ride through the neighborhood sponsored by the Institute of Cultural Affairs. The route will be 6 miles and weave through Uptown and Edgewater. It will begin and end at Clarendon Park with a mid-ride break at Winnemac Park. The pace of the ride will be a "slow roll," making it accessible for children and new riders. A representative from Divvy For Everywhere will be on hand to sign up residents for subsidized Divvy memberships. Meet at 10 a.m. Saturday. Ride begins at 10:30 a.m. and will conclude before noon. Clarendon Park Fieldhouse, 4501 N. Clarendon Ave. Free.

Clarendon Park Turns 100: The Chicago Park District will host a centennial celebration featuring a history lesson of the area, live music, model trains and refreshments Saturday. Ninja Sex Party Concert: The Aragon Ballroom will host Ninja Sex Party, which is composed of Danny Sexbang and Ninja Brian. The performance includes special guests TWRP and Starbomb. Tickets are $30 and available here. The general admission show is for all ages. 7 p.m. Saturday. Aragon Ballroom, 1106 W. Lawrence Ave.
