MORGAN PARK — The Chicago Police Department's Morgan Park District will host a dog walk at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in an effort to raise awareness of the link between domestic violence and animal abuse.

The eighth annual walk begins at the police station at 1900 W. Monterey Ave. and typically circles the block. People who own pets and those who don't are welcome to participate.

A special dog blessing will take place, and representatives from the city's Animal Care and Control Department will be there with dogs available for adoption.

At a recent CAPS meeting in Beverly, Officer Carressa Northcross said studies have shown that there is a correlation between animal cruelty and domestic abuse.

The event also will feature raffles, giveaways and some light refreshments. For more information, call the Morgan Park Police District Community Policing office at 312-745-0620.
