CHICAGO — The outbound Eisenhower Expy. was shut down during the morning rush hour Thursday after a shooting on the busy roadway left a man dead and a woman wounded.
About 5:30 a.m., the man and woman were shot while driving on the Eisenhower near Laramie Avenue, according to the State Police. The man was pronounced dead and the woman was in critical condition.
The man was identified by family as Johnathon Ortiz, an upcoming rapper who went by the name "John Doe," according to NBC5. He was on his way home when he was shot, and his girlfriend was also wounded in the attack, according to NBC5.
Ortiz released his first mixtape earlier this month and had performed at the House of Blues and other venues, according to his Facebook page.
All four lanes of the westbound Eisenhower from California to Central were temporarily closed for about an hour due to police activity. Investigators walked a long stretch of the Ike, searching for shell casings and taking photos.
State Police warned commuters to expect more traffic in the area Thursday morning.
