AVONDALE — A 27-year-old man was shot in his head while driving in Avondale Saturday evening, police said.

At 6:10 p.m., the man was driving on Belmont Avenue near Pulaski Road when someone pulled up alongside him in a car and shot at him, according to Officer Hector Alfaro, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man drove himself to Community First Hospital, where he was considered "stable," Alfaro said.

Police said the man is a documented gang member.

No one was in custody, Alfaro said.
