ENGLEWOOD — Organic bath salts and shea butter men's shaving cream are two new products that shoppers can soon buy at Whole Foods' new Englewood store.

Englewood native Jennifer Alexander and her husband, Edward, created their skin care company, Island Indulgences, in December. The new Whole Foods, which opens Wednesday, will be the first retailer to feature their products.

“I’m excited,” Alexander said. “Not only do we want to stay there, but we want to grow.”

She said she also wants to create a legacy and build financial freedom for her family.

The home-based company came to be two years ago when Alexander became more conscious about what she was putting on her skin.

“I have skin Lupus, so for me it was just about trying to find products that didn’t contain all of the chemicals and dyes,” she said.

Alexander began doing research and that’s when she created Body Butter and Sugar Scrubs. Her husband makes the shea butter shaving cream.

Island Indulgences offers bath salts, body scrubs and more.

She said it’s as important for people to be concerned about what they’re putting on their bodies as they are about what they're putting in their bodies.

The entrepreneur said she’s very involved in the community through organizations like the Resident Association of Greater Englewood and Teamwork Englewood. At first she sold the products to her friends and eventually she widened her reach and would take them to events. Word spread, she said, and people started to ask for more.

“There are no artificial ingredients,” Alexander said. “Basically, everything in our products are products you can find right in your home or are nature-grown.”

All of the Island Indulgences products can be bought online at www.islandindulgences.net.
