COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — Two more minors, including a 12-year-old boy, have been charged with robbing and raping a Roseland woman as her son slept in the next room, police confirmed Wednesday.

The attack happened about 11 p.m. Sept. 14 when three boys — ages 12, 15 and 16 — broke into a 30-year-old woman's home through a kitchen window in the 9600 block of South Prairie Avenue, police and prosecutors said.

Dawon Russell, 16, was charged as an adult Tuesday afternoon. According to prosecutors, he and a knife-wielding accomplice raped the 30-year-old victim as her son slept in the neighboring bedroom; a third burglar acted as lookout.

Police on Wednesday announced that two boys, ages 12 and 15, also were charged in the attack. It was not immediately clear whether the boys were charged as juveniles or adults. Police did not release names or booking photos.

Both minors face charges of home invasion and aggravated criminal sexual assault.

During Russell's bond hearing Tuesday, Assistant State's Attorney Melissa Howlett said the trio was responsible for stealing a laptop, car keys, purse and iPhone while inside the woman's home.

At one point, all three headed to the 30-year-old's bedroom, where they found her asleep, prosecutors said.

Russell woke up the woman, claimed he had a gun and threatened to shoot the victim if she didn't have sex with him, according to Howlett.

Russell and one of his accomplices, who was wielding a kitchen knife at the time, then proceeded to rape the woman, Howlett said. The third accomplice acted as lookout. It was not clear Wednesday which boy, the 12- or 15-year-old, occupied which role.

When the boys left, the victim immediately called her husband to report what happened. She then grabbed her son — who'd been sleeping in the next room during the attack — and ran to a neighbor's house for help, prosecutors said.

A rape kit was collected at a nearby hospital.

Russell was arrested during an unrelated burglary in the area, court records show. He was carrying the victim's car keys at the time and later confessed to raping and robbing the 30-year-old woman before driving away in her car, authorities said.

Cook County Judge Maria Kuriakos Ciesil on Tuesday ordered Russell held in lieu of $400,000 bail.
