HUMBOLDT PARK — A 65-year-old man was shot in his arm while he was working on a car in Humboldt Park on Tuesday afternoon, police said.
At 2:50 p.m., the man was in the 1400 block of North Homan Avenue when someone shot at him from a passing dark-colored car, according to Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.
The man was taken to Norwegian Hospital, where he was listed in good condition with a gunshot wound in his left arm, Tannehill said.
Police said the man is a documented gang member.
Ben Ziola, who lives near the intersection of Hirsch Street and Homan Avenue, said he saw someone pull up in a black car and fire three shots before driving off.
"Unfortunately, that kind of thing is pretty common around here," Ziola said.
The garage where neighbors said the man was maintaining his car was attached to a large brick home with shuttered windows.
Jose Castanada, who lives next door to the house, said he often sees large groups of people partying there.
"They're nice people, and sometimes I say hi to them," he said. "But I try to keep to myself, and stay out of that whole street life."
No one was in custody, Tannehill said.
