BUCKTOWN — A car crashed into the side of a Bucktown bar on Tuesday morning, leaving severe damage but no apparent injuries, witnesses and neighbors said.

The crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. at Gallery Cabaret, 2020 N. Oakley Ave., across the street from the Pulaski International School of Excellence, 2230 W. McLean Ave.

Mica Alaniz was walking to work Tuesday morning when she noticed a swarm of emergency vehicles surrounding a "big hole" in the north side facade of the gallery's brick wall.

"It actually looked like the car was in pretty decent condition, considering," she said. The red car at the scene's "airbag definitely went off," she said.

Commenters on Facebook noted that the area around the crash is frequented by students and CTA riders making their morning trip."Kids start crossing at that intersection to get to school pretty early in the morning, plus lots of blue line commuters as well," one person wrote. "Glad no one was hurt!”

Chicago Fire Department officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment Tuesday morning.

Gallery Cabaret opened in 1988 and has hosted acts like The Smashing Pumpkins and Liz Phair, according to its website, which says the Bucktown bar harkens back to a time when “you could walk into a joint, buy a drink, and enjoy live entertainment like comedy or music just for being there and being a patron.”
