CHICAGO — A 19-year-old pregnant woman was killed and a 26-year-old man was critically wounded in a South Chicago shooting Sunday evening, according to police.

The two were sitting in a parked car at 6:10 p.m. in the 8700 block of South Marquette Avenue when another car pulled up alongside and a shooter began firing, said Officer Kevin Quaid, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The woman was struck in her neck and was brought to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition before she was pronounced dead, Quaid said.

She has been identified as Parasha M. Beard, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. Her home address was not listed by the medical examiner.

She was due to give birth in December, according to media reports. Police could not confirm the woman was pregnant.

Relatives of Beard told the Tribune that doctors were able to save her baby, who is now recovering.

The man was shot in his neck and chest and was brought to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Quaid said.

Police said he is a documented gang member.

No arrests have been made.
