Burnt Body Found After Austin Trash Fire Put Out, Officials Say

CHICAGO — Officials found a burnt body after putting out a fire in Austin early Saturday, police said.

At 1:25 a.m., Chicago Police and Fire responded to a trash fire in the 5500 block of West Cortez Street, said Officer Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman. After putting out the fire, they found the remains of a burnt body.

The gender and age of the body were not immediately known, Estrada said.

The death was being investigated.
