South Shore Shooting Kills Alexander Townsend, 18, Police Say

CHICAGO — A shooting in South Shore left an 18-year-old man dead Wednesday morning, police said.

At 10:21 a.m., the man was crossing the street in the 2600 block of East 75th Street when a black car drove past and someone inside fired shots at the man, said Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was hit in his abdomen and hand and was taken to Northwestern Hospital in serious condition, Amezaga said. He was later pronounced dead.

He has been identified as Alexander Townsend, of the 7600 block of South Cornell Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

No one was in custody in the shooting.
