BRIDGEPORT —A memorial fundraiser has been set to raise money for the son of Kristopher Weiss, a 45-year-old Bridgeport man beaten to death after leaving a neighborhood bar.

"As everyone now knows, we lost a great friend, father and brother, Kristopher Weiss and now it's time to come together and share some drinks and some stories about the man we all loved," reads an event description on Facebook.

The fundraiser runs from 9 p.m.-midnight Friday at The Coach House Bar & Grill in Schaumburg (1626 E Algonquin Rd.). Admission is $50 and includes an open bar (no shots), pizza and appetizers.

The post said that $20 of every admission will support the schooling of Weiss' son, Michael.

Anyone interested in going should show up to Turtles Bar & Grill, 238 W. 33rd St., at 8 p.m. Friday. A pair of buses will transport the party to the suburbs.

On July 22, authorities found Weiss with a severe head injury in the 3000 block of South Normal, police said. He had gotten into a fight with a man later identified as 48-year-old Phillip Levato, of Brighton Park.

Levato punched Weiss in the face, prosecutors said, causing him to fall and hit his head on the pavement.

An ambulance took Weiss to Stroger Hospital, where he died from his injuries two days later on July 24, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. The medical examiner later revealed the cause of death as a blunt force injury.

After turning himself in, Levato, of the 2500 block of West 36th Street, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in Weiss' death, according to police.

Weiss' family held his funeral Monday at All Saints-St. Anthony's Church in Bridgeport.

As of Wednesday, a GoFundMe campaign launched to raise money for Weiss' son had raised more than $12,000 of its $20,000 goal.

"Kris was an impeccable man and friend," Lanedra Hubbard wrote in an online guest book. "I could always leave it to him to make me laugh. Kris will truly be missed."
