O'HARE — Thousands of runners will get a chance to run a route Sept. 25 that is usually reserved for planes getting ready to take off or land at O'Hare Airport.
Sponsored by United Airlines and the Chicago Department of Aviation, the sixth annual O'Hare 5K on the Runway will benefit Cal's Angels, which grants wishes for children fighting cancer and provides financial assistance to their families.
Runners will race along the furthest south runway, known as 10R, organizers said.

Organizers promise runners "thrilling sights and sounds of planes taking off and landing nearby."
The race will start at 8 a.m. Parking is free for runners.
The event includes a 5K run, walk and kids run. Strollers are welcome, organizers said.
The cost for the run is $45 for the race and $20 for the children's race.
