
CHINATOWN — Looking for something fun to do in Chinatown this week?
There’s a pair of free events at Ping Tom Memorial Park, 1700 S. Wentworth, you might want to check out.
FREE CANOEING
On Thursday, there will be free canoeing on the Chicago River from 3-7 p.m. No experience is needed. All voyageur canoe rides are guided by expert paddlers. This will be the last free paddling event of the year at Ping Tom Park.
PEDALS AND PETALS PLANTING AND BIKING
On Sunday, you can help plant over 12,000 native plants in Ping Tom Park’s nature areas. There will be live music, activities, kayaking and more. Here’s a looking at the schedule, running from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Community Tabling, 10 a.m.-Noon
Opening with a traditional Chinese lion dance performance by the Chicago Chinese Cultural Institute, the day’s events will start with more than 10 community organizations sharing information at booths.
Community Planting, 11 a.m.-Noon
Gloves and tools will be provided to help plant over 12,000 native plants in the park’s nature areas. Make sure to wear comfortable footwear and clothing.
Nature Oasis, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Kids of all ages are welcome to a ton of nature activities, including bug hunts, fish-themed art and birding.
Lunch, Noon-1 p.m.
Bring a lunch and blanket to eat with the community.
Urban Kayaking, Noon-3 p.m.
Urban Kayaks Chinatown will offer kayak rentals at a discount: $10 per person.
Slow Roll Chicago Bike Ride, 1-3 p.m.
This 7-mile round trip bike ride rolls from Ping Tom Park to the Burnham Wildlife Corridor. Landmarks include the Shedd Aquarium’s Pollinator Garden. If you don’t have a bike, don’t worry. Slow Roll Chicago will provide one. Email Dan@slowrollchicago.org.
