South Side Shootings Leave 8 Wounded, Police Say

CHICAGO- South Side shootings have left eight people wounded since Saturday, police said.

Sunday shootings of note:

At 4 a.m., a 29-year-old woman walking in the 3600 block of South Honore looked down and saw blood on her right shoe, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. 

The woman, who realized that she had been shot in the foot, took herself to St. Anthony Hospital. She did not know how the shooting may have occurred, Tannehill said. 

At 2:35 a.m., a 21-year-old man was standing in the 3900 block of South Rockwell Street when someone in a passing grey Ford Explorer fired shots at him, police said. 

The man, who was shot in the right hand, was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition, police said. 

The shooting may have been related to another shooting by 39th Street and Campbell Avenue around the same time that left 19-year-old man wounded, police said.

The man, who was shot multiple times, was taken to Mt. Sinai, where he was listed in critical condition, police said.

The man is a documented gang member, police said.

Saturday shootings of note:

At 8:40 p.m., a 31-year-old man was in the 5700 block of South Seeley Avenue when someone wearing all black fired shots at him, said Jose Estrada, a Chicago Police spokesman.

The man was shot in the foot, and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital where he was listed in good condition, Estrada said. 

At 7 p.m., a 18-year-old man was shot in the Marynook neighborhood. He was standing on the 8300 block of South Kenwood Avenue when a black sedan drove past and an unknown occupant fired shots, police said.

The victim was shot in the left arm and went to to Jackson Park Hospital in good condition, police said.

At 6:50 p.m., a 19-year-old man was riding his bike in an alley when he heard shots and felt pain in the 1900 block of West Garfield Boulevard, Estrada said. 

The man, who was shot in the buttocks, was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was listed in good condition, Estrada said.

At 6:30 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was standing in the 10900 block of South Eberhart Avenue in front of a home when a gray sedan drove past and fired shots, Estrada said.

The boy, who was shot in the back and right hand, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where his condition was stabilized, Estrada said.

At 5 p.m., a man was shot in the 4700 block of South Shields Avenue, Estrada said. 

The man, who was shot multiple times, was taken to Provident Hospital of Cook County before being transferred to Stroger Hospital, Estrada said.

No further information was available, police said.

No one is in custody for the shootings, police said.
