CHICAGO — Officers shot and wounded a man after he was involved in a Friday night shooting in Humboldt Park, police said.

At 11:30 p.m., officers on patrol near Maplewood Avenue and Division Street saw a shooting, according to a Chicago Police news release. The officers intervened with a man, whose age was not immediately available, and at least one officer fired shots, hitting the man.

The man had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said. No officers were injured.

The man, identified as Michael Arquero, was later charged with one count of unlawful use of a weapon, police said.

Police had been investigating a homicide related to the shooting witnessed by the officers, police said, but no further details were immediately available.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man killed in the fatal shooting as Luis Angel Rodriguez, 18, of the 1300 block of North Oakley Avenue.

Angel R., who witnessed the first shooting, told DNAinfo several men in a car fired shots at Guerrero's Tacos, 2534 W. Division St. The restaurant could not immediately be reached.

"They were in a car and shot more than 10 shots toward the patio," Angel said. "A man there had a gun and shot back to protect us all. He was walking back to his car, and police shot him."

A car at the scene had its back window shot out and was towed away.

"I've been here 44 years. This [shootings] happens all the time. The news is only here because it's a police-involved shooting," said Alfredo Ortiz, who lives a few houses north of the shootings.

The officers who were involved will be placed on administrative duty for 30 days, and the Independent Police Review Authority will investigate.
