Citizens For Cappleman

UPTOWN — The 46th Ward Awards is now taking nominations for its annual award show honoring businesses, individuals and organizations in the ward.

The fourth annual award ceremony, which is sponsored by Citizens for Cappleman, will be held at the Lawrence House, 1020 W. Lawrence Ave., on Oct. 13, according to its website.

Residents of the ward can nominate and vote in five categories including: best not-for-profit, best restaurant, best storefront display, best new business, best garden or greenspace and the Jay Michael Innovator Award.

All nominees are selected via survey and the top three in each category advance to the voting round. The winners are determined by popular vote, according to the website.

Category details:

• Best Not-for-profit recognizes an outstanding 501(c)3 community organization or charity engaged in work that seeks to contribute to the betterment of the ward.

• Best Restaurant recognizes the best bar or restaurant in the ward.

• Best Storefront Display recognizes a commercial space "that consistently demonstrates an effort to enhance and beautify the local streetscape."

• Best New Business recognizes an outstanding business that opened within the ward in last 15 months.

• Best Garden or Greenspace recognizes the ward's favorite greenspace or garden.

• The Jay Michaels Innovator Award recognizes "an individual or organization that has demonstrated a commitment to improving the 46th Ward through arts/tech initiatives, environmental action or visionary leadership."

Residents can nominate their ward favorites here.

Nominations for the event began on Sept. 1 and voting will begin Oct. 1, according to the website.
