CHICAGO — Summer isn't done with us yet.

Forecasts show a hot and sticky week, with temperatures reaching into the 90s Wednesday, until thunderstorms cool things down on Wednesday night, according to meteorologists from the National Weather Service.

Temperatures will climb to about 90 degrees along the lakefront during the day Tuesday and Wednesday, said meteorologist Amy Seeley. But with humidity factored in, it could feel as hot as 98.

Forecasts show a slight chance of scattered thunderstorms overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, Seeley said. But as a cold front approaches late Wednesday, the city will likely be battered with heavy rain Wednesday night.

After that, temperatures are expected to fall back down. Thursday will see a high of 84 degrees, and the air is forecast to keep cooling from there. It will all lead up to a promising-looking weekend, with highs in the upper 70s and no rain forecast for Saturday and Sunday, Seeley said.

Overall, the city is looking at typical late-summer temperatures for the rest of the month, Seeley said. Chicago's average temperature in September is around 65 degrees.
