West Garfield Park Shooting Kills Malik Philpot, 20, Police Say

CHICAGO — Malik Philpot, 20, was shot and killed in West Garfield Park Thursday morning, according to police.

Philpot was in the 4200 block of West West End Avenue at 10:35 a.m. when shots rang out, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago Police spokeswoman. He was struck in his abdomen and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Sweeney said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified that man Thursday afternoon. He lived in the 1300 block of North Parkside Avenue in Austin, according to the medical examiner.

No arrests have been made.
