UPTOWN — A new cafe specializing in Vietnamese desserts and drinks is heading to Broadway.

Bambu Desserts and Drinks is currently under construction at 5010 N. Broadway, but no opening date has been set, according to owner Kelly Nguyen.

Customers can expect smoothies and coffee at the cafe, which will seat about 10 people, said Nguyen.

Nguyen choose the area because of its vicinity to Argyle street, which has a huge Asian market, she said.

Bambu is a franchise with locations all over, but this is the first in Chicago, she said.

It will also serve chè and teas, according to signs on the restaurant.

"Chè is a Vietnamese word for home-made beverages, dessert drinks and puddings" according to its website, which adds its chè "is made to order using freshly cut coconut water or daily prepared coconut milk."

The franchise was founded in 2008 by four Vietnamese sisters in California. There are nearly 50 shops located in nine states, the website said.

Its core menu has more than 90 desserts and drinks, but shops also feature their own seasonal drinks, the website said.

You can check out some of its drinks here.
