BUCKTOWN — A triangular lot at the southeast corner of Armitage and Wilmot avenues that was the longtime home of a tiny wooden hot dog shack, Sam's Red Hots, is for sale for $550,000, according to a real estate listing.
The family-owned stand that was witness to four generations and two owners closed over the weekend.
Earlier this month, David Miller, with S. Hansen Realty Inc., listed the 3,049 square-foot, 0.7 acre lot for sale, a Redfin listing shows.
Located just east of the Armitage and Western intersection, the lot is behind a McDonald's and about a block away from the CTA Western Blue Line stop.
Ruth Fischer, whose family owns the lot, said on Wednesday that "it would be wonderful if someone could keep it going as a hot dog stand."
Fischer's son, Steven Kaplan, had to close the stand due to health reasons.
Miller could not immediately be reached for comment on Wednesday.
Fischer said that her son is doing well after having had a brain tumor removed last Friday.
"His speech is almost back to normal. He wants to thank all of our friends who have visited us so often," Fischer said.
