GAGE PARK — A 26-year-old man is facing criminal charges after pointing a gun at police during a chase Monday afternoon, police said.

At 3:13 p.m., the officers were patrolling near the 5800 block of South Maplewood Avenue when they heard gunshots, police said.

As the officers approached the site of the gunshots, Paul Ken Rivers started to run away, and the officers started chasing him, police said.

Rivers then pointed a handgun at an officer, prompting the officer to fire shots at Rivers, police said.

Rivers, who was not hit, was later arrested and a gun was recovered, police said.

Rivers, of the 6600 block of South Wolcott Avenue, faces one count of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of aggravated assault of an officer.
