BEVERLY — The one-minute television commercial won by The Quilter's Trunk in Beverly will air at 7:59 a.m. Tuesday on NBC Chicago.

The quilting store at 10352 S. Western Ave. sent an email Monday evening to customers alerting them to the broadcast. The store won the commercial along with $2,500 "in a landslide" vote that took place online from July 11-24, store owner Katie Nathwani said late last month.

Voting for The Hartford's Small Business Boost competition took place on NBC Chicago's Facebook page. The store that sells fabric, thread, sewing machines and other items for quilting encouraged customers to vote daily on its behalf.

The Quilter's Trunk opened Sept. 25 and was the only South Side contestant in the contest. It beat three other Chicago small businesses in the competition coordinated by the television station and The Hartford, a Connecticut-based insurance provider.

Finalists were judged by their ability to hire locally, source locally and give back to the community. Nathwani said all seven of the store's employees are from the area and whenever possible, the store works with local vendors.

As for community involvement, store manager Lisa Wilberding pointed to the shop's longtime support for A New Direction, a crisis counseling center for victims of domestic abuse in Beverly, as well as a recent push to collect handmade pillowcases and quilts for Operation Help a Hero, a veterans' assistance group.

"Thank you to EVERYONE who voted for TQT," the email to customers said. "The best advertising we can hope for is word of mouth. Please share our newsletters with other quilting, embroidery and sewing enthusiasts."
