By Alex Nitkin | August 29, 2016 3:26pm

CHICAGO — Corey Strother, 16, died at Lurie Children's Hospital on Friday, more than eight months after he was shot in Englewood, officials said.

Strother was shot on the evening of Dec. 23, 2015, according to police.

He was getting out of a parked car in the 5900 block of South Princeton Avenue when a man walked up and shot at him, hitting the teen in his neck and back, police said at the time.

The teen was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said, while the shooter either ran away or drove off.

Strother did not have known gang ties, police said, but he appeared to be the intended target of the shooting.

He lived in the same block where he was shot, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
