CHICAGO — Western Avenue between 31st and 35th will be closed this weekend because of maintenance work on the Western Avenue Bridge over the Sanitary and Ship Canal, the Chicago Department of Transportation announced.
The portion of Western Avenue will close at midnight Saturday and reopen at 11:59 p.m. Sunday for "necessary maintenance of the bridge structure," according to the CDT.
Although drivers "need to be watchful," the area shouldn't be too congested due to easy weekend traffic and detour routes, according to the City of Chicago's transportation spokesperson Susan Hofer.
"The detours are good arterial roads, so they should be able to handle the traffic," said Hofer.
