JEFFERSON PARK — An estimated 30,000 people are expected to flock to downtown Jefferson Park over the Labor Day weekend for the 36th annual Taste of Polonia, the largest festival of Polish food, culture and beer in North America.
More than 30 bands are expected to play on four stages during the four-day festival that will take place Sept. 2-5 at the Copernicus Center, 5216 W. Lawrence Ave.
The fest promises something for every music lover — including polka, rock, jazz dance, Latin, and classical.
The theater's lobby will be transformed into a casino from 2-10 p.m. Saturday through Monday, organizers said.
Many booths will serve Polish beer and pierogi, which are dumplings of unleavened dough that are first boiled, then baked or fried in butter with onions. They are usually stuffed with potatoes, but sometimes can be stuffed with sauerkraut, ground meat, cheese or fruit.
An exhibit created by the Northwest Chicago Historical Society about Jefferson Park's history will be displayed inside the center.
Taste of Polonia will take place from 5-10 p.m. Sept. 2, noon-10 p.m. Sept. 3-4 and noon-9:30 p.m. Sept. 5.
Tickets, which are $5 before 5 p.m. and $10 after 5 p.m. are available online. Children younger than 12 are free.
