MORGAN PARK — Students at Morgan Park High School will return classes Sept. 6 to find new lockers throughout the building at 1744 W. Pryor Ave.

Carolyn Epps, principal of the school with 1,480 students, said the work was completed over the summer. The new lockers were largely installed in the annex portion of the building.

Other lockers throughout the school were also repaired or replaced. Epps estimated that some 600 new lockers were added as part of the effort.

"Right now, everything is going fine as far as preparations for the upcoming school year," she said Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for Chicago Public Schools did not respond to a request for more details on the project, including a price tag. However, a report by WBEZ 91.5 FM pegged the project at $1 million.

Epps wouldn't verify the cost of the project but said the new lockers were actually a hold-out from the previous year, as the the money was committed for the lockers just before classes began in 2015.

Without time to install the new lockers before classes resumed, Epps opted to wait until this summer to complete the project.

"Last summer, it was delayed," she said.
