4 Far North Side Homes For Under $600K Built Before They Were In Chicago

By Linze Rice | August 24, 2016 6:37am

WEST RIDGE — Before West Ridge and Rogers Park became two of Chicago's northernmost neighborhoods, they were small villages on the outskirts of a developing urban hub.

West Ridge had earlier been known as Ridgeville, sprung from a group of mostly German settlers near the Ridge and Devon intersection, and in 1893 both it and Rogers Park were annexed into the city of Chicago.

Many single-family homes between both neighborhoods still exist today, and at least four are currently on the market.

The oldest is at 6950 N. Seeley Ave. in West Ridge, built in 1877 on a unique lot with a wide yard for sale at $450,000.

At 1807 W. Morse Ave. in Rogers Park, a two-story house built in 1886 is going for $594,900 and offers two fire places, plus a marble whirlpool bath.

The eclectic home at 1701 W. Chase Ave., also in Rogers Park, was built in 1891. Selling for $565,000, the house boasts seven bedrooms, outdoor areas, classic decorative features and five parking spots.

The year the Far North Side neighborhoods became part of Chicago, the two-story home at 1823 W. Chase Ave. was constructed — now being sold for $375,000. This one is for lovers of vintage decor, or those willing to provide some updates.
