Norwood Park Woman Hit By Car, Killed While Jogging On NW Side

By Heather Cherone | August 23, 2016 12:59pm

NORWOOD PARK — A woman jogging along Devon Avenue in Norwood Park died Tuesday morning after being struck by a car, police said.

Cynthia Tatman, 56, was jogging east near Milwaukee Avenue in the westbound traffic lanes when she was critically injured, said Chicago Police Officer Nicole Trainor, a spokeswoman for the department.

The crash happened after the driver of a car swerved to avoid Tatman, but the car behind it was unable to avoid hitting her, Trainor said.

The stretch of Devon Avenue where the accident occurred has sidewalks, and is adjacent to the Caldwell Woods forest preserve.

Tatman died about a mile from her Norwood Park home, police said.

Tatman died after she was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Trainor said.

Investigators have not determined whether the driver of the car will be cited or charged in connection with the accident. The driver remained on the scene after the accident, Trainor said.
