HERMOSA — Binny's Beverage Depot has opened its first store on the Northwest Side.

The new liquor superstore opened late last week on the border of Hermosa and Logan Square and has plans for a grand opening celebration in the near future.

The new location, at 3934 W. Diversey Ave., was previously a Walgreens.

The new Binny's is the company's 34th store, including the sixth in Chicago.

The company is hosting a "weekend at Binny's Tasting" from 1-4 p.m. Sept. 3 that will include samplings of wine, beer and spirits.

A date for the grand opening has not been set, according to a Binny's spokeswoman.

Binny's representatives met with members of the Hermosa Neighborhood Association in March to discuss plans for the new business and to address any possible concerns over bringing a liquor store to the neighborhood.

So far, the reaction has been good, according to Leonardo Giron, a member of the neighborhood organization.

"We are really happy they are open," Giron said. "They were really respectful when it came to construction. Right now, nothing negative."

Binny's is hiring for the new location. More information can be found at binnys.com/careers.
