CHICAGO — A 22-year-old man was shot dead in West Garfield Park Sunday afternoon, according to police.

The man was on the sidewalk in the 4000 block of West End Avenue at 4:15 p.m. Sunday when two men walked up and began firing, said Officer Michelle Tannehill, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

He was struck in his chest and abdomen and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Tannehill said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Kendrick Thorton of suburban Bellwood.

No arrests have been made.
