EDGEWATER — The owners behind the Lovely brand bakeries in Edgewater and West Town are looking to sell the shops to "the right person" as they begin focusing on new ventures elsewhere in the "food scene," owner Bob Hartwig said.

Hartwig said he and co-owner wife Gina were still in the preliminary stages of deciding how to transition to new owners, but that ideally not much else would change at the bakeries.

The hope is to find someone new to "continue on" the Lovely brand, food and culture so the Hartwigs could have more time and financial resources to focus on other food projects they plan to announce in the future, Bob said.

"We're actually going to be doing more as a result of this change," Hartwig said. "We're still very much going to be present in the food scene with things that people recognize and some things we think people are really going to be excited about."

The first Lovely bakery opened at 1130 N. Milwaukee Ave. in West Town in 2007 and has since garnered a loyal customer base, as well as become a unique wedding venue. In 2012, the couple opened its sister store at 1138 W. Bryn Mawr Ave. in Edgewater.

The Hartwigs also own Bakin' & Eggs: A Lovely Idea breakfast spot in Lakeview.

Though Hartwig said the couple is looking to hand the business off to another owner, the pair will still be working on other Chicago-based food projects.

"We're not going anywhere," Hartwig said.
