CHICAGO — Work on the 95th Street Red Line terminal will cause traffic headaches for inbound Dan Ryan Expressway drivers starting in September, transportation officials said.

The left-most inbound lane of the Dan Ryan will be closed Sept. 6 and will not reopen until around Thanksgiving, the Illinois Department of Transportation and CTA said Thursday.

It will close again next spring and last until the fall, when crews hope to wrap up construction on a new terminal for bus and Red Line passengers at 95th and State streets, officials said in a news release.

The left lane of the inbound Dan Ryan will be closed just south and north of 95th Street, officials said. Traffic delays are to expected, officials said.

The city will replace the 95th Street terminal, considered the busiest station on the Red Line's south corridor, CTA said. Construction on the terminal's foundation began in 2014.

The facility will include two terminals, one north and one south of 95th Street. Both terminals will be finished by 2018, though officials expect the south terminal to be finished by 2017.
