Burglar Swiping Bikes, Lawn Equipment, Tools From Beverly Garages: Police

By Howard Ludwig | August 15, 2016 4:23pm

BEVERLY — The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert after six garages were burglarized in Beverly.

The burglar entered the garages through a side door that was either unlocked or was opened by force using a screwdriver. Once inside, the burglar takes bicycles, lawn equipment and tools, according to police in the Morgan Park District.

Police described the thief as a black man around 50 years old. He stands about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds with short hair and wearing a baseball hat.

The burglaries occurred in police beats 2213 and 2221, specifically in:

• the 9400 block of South Hamilton Avenue

• the 9200 block of South Winchester Avenue

• the 9600 block of South Seeley Avenue

• the 9600 block of South Bell Avenue

Police recommend checking to be sure all garage doors are locked, as well as any vehicles parked within the garage. Police also advised that residents notify a neighbor, friend or relative if they are planning to be out of town and call 911 immediately to provide a detailed description of any suspicious people or vehicles in the area.

"You are not bothering the police. If you see something that doesn't look right to you, report it to 911," Ald. Matt O'Shea (19th) said in an email to constituents Monday containing the community alert.
