CHICAGO — A 27-year-old man was fatally shot in a West Garfield Park attack Saturday afternoon, according to police.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Yanong Woods, of the 3100 block of West Huron Street.

Woods was outside in the 3800 block of West Madison Street at 1 p.m. Saturday when another man walked up and began firing, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Woods was struck in his chest, knee and thigh and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, Lemmon said.

Authorities also responded to calls of a 10-year-old shot in the same incident, and though he was taken to Stroger Hospital with an injury, officials believe it was a graze wound from broken glass or some other sharp object, and not a bullet, said Jeff Lyle, deputy district chief for the Chicago Fire Department.

No arrests have been made.
