UPTOWN — Beat 1914 in Uptown was plagued with battery and theft incidents in July, according to CAPS officers and statistics pulled from the Chicago Police Department website.

The beat, which sits between Montrose and Lawrence, and spans east from Broadway all the way to the lake shore, held its bimonthly CAPS meeting Wednesday at Clarendon Park Fieldhouse, 4501 N. Clarendon Ave.

"Battery is our biggest crime for the area. In June, we had a few more than normal," said Officer Tom Walsh, adding the amount of incidents seem high in June, but dipped in July.

Of the six aggravated battery incidents that occurred in the beat in July, one person has been arrested, according to the CPD website.

There were also three burglaries last month and no arrests.

"Most burglaries that happen here, they go through a first floor or garden window," said Officer Kellee Simz, adding that was the case in two of the three incidents last month.

The beat also had multiple shootings in the last month including a 19-year-old man shot outside Christopher House, a daycare at 4701 N. Winthrop Ave., and a drive-by shooting along Sheridan Road that left a StreetWise vendor dead and a 58-year-old man wounded in early Aug.

Police could not provide more details about the shootings Wednesday.
