LAKEVIEW — Unlocked homes fell prey to burglaries near the Belmont "L" station over the past week.

Burglars stole from homes with an unlocked window or door at least three times since Aug. 1, police said.

On the 800 block of West Newport Avenue, police said a burglary took place Friday between 10 a.m. and midnight. Another was reported in the 3200 block of North Kenmore Avenue between 11 a.m. and midnight Sunday.

Police could only narrow the third incident to some time between Aug. 1 and 8 in the 3300 block of North Kenmore Avenue. No description of the alleged burglars was available.

The Town Hall District strongly encourages residents to lock all entries to a home or garage. The majority of reported burglaries are unforced, and officers took care to discuss the increased threat during a recent community policing meeting.

Police advise neighbors to equip homes with security or surveillance systems and report suspicious people, particularly those seen loitering.

Wednesday's advisory came along with a warning about armed robberies in Lakeview and Ravenswood.

In three robberies since July 30, victims were walking down the sidewalk when two men walked up from behind and took out a handgun before demanding their property, police said.
