LINCOLN PARK — A group of Chicago comedians have put together a stand-up comedy show at Adobe Gila's, and any proceeds from the Tuesday night event will go to a nonprofit organization dedicated to suicide prevention.

Hosted by River West comic Jay Harris, the "Laugh at Life, Life's a Peach" 90-minute long benefit starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Adobe Gila's, 1500 N. Clybourn Ave. in Lincoln Park's New City shopping complex.

The free event will also serve as a fundraiser for the Chicago-based Hope for the Day Foundation, which helps people with mental health issues to combat suicide. The nonprofit's motto is "It's OK not to be OK, have hope."

Any profits from the suggested $5 cover will go to Hope for the Day, Harris said.

Two years ago, Harris' then ex-girlfriend committed suicide.

"I got a subtle tribute to her in the poster with the peach in Life's a Peach [subheader], which is what I used to call her. She'd of loved that," Harris said.

Harris said that in addition to himself, seven other comics are participating in the fundraiser. The lineup includes Rodney Lumpkins, Jim Flannigan, Marz Timmz, Patrick Kent, Kyle Parks, Bill Bunker and Kenny Metroff.
