2 Teens Charged In Accidental Fatal Shooting Of Mario Venegas Jr., 15

HUMBOLDT PARK — Two teens have been charged in the accidental fatal shooting of a 15-year-old boy Friday, police said.

Around 1:15 p.m., 17-year-old Elijah Garcia and 18-year-old Orlando Gonzalez were "handling a gun" inside a home in the 2700 block of West Evergreen Avenue when it went off and hit the boy in his head, according to Officer Nicole Trainor, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The boy, Mario Venegas Jr., of the 2000 block of West McLean Avenue, was brought to Stroger Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. He was pronounced dead at 8:58 a.m. Saturday.

Garcia was charged with involuntary manslaughter and unlawful use of a weapon, Trainor said. Gonzalez, of the 2000 block of North Hoyne Avenue, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
