ENGLEWOOD — A 4-year-old boy was found dead inside a vacant Englewood home after a small fire was extinguished there Tuesday night, and investigators are now questioning three people, authorities said.

Firefighters were called to the 1400 block of West Marquette Road around 10:30 p.m., according to Officer Laura Amezaga, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

Firefighters eventually made their way to the basement of a house, where "paper and rags" had ignited, Langford said. The fire appeared to have been intentionally lit.

After they put the fire out, firefighters found the child wrapped in a blanket, Langford said. The child appeared to have died before the fire was started, fire officials said.

The child has been identified as Manuel Aguilar, 4, of the 6400 block of South Wolcott Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner said.

A death investigation is underway, and detectives were questioning three people, police said. The medical examiner has yet determined a cause of death.

No arrests had been made as of Wednesday evening, police said.
