SOUTH LOOP — Plans are moving forward for a development of townhomes set to be built in the South Loop by early next year, according to the project's architect.

The dozen homes will be built at 1948 S. Prairie Ave., according to architect Michael J. Leary. The three-bedroom, 4½-bathroom homes will feature bay windows and a two-car garage, all surrounding a large courtyard.

Each home will span between 3,100 and 3,700 square feet, stretched among four floors, Leary said. Each will include a "den/family room" area.

The project has yet to score final approval from the city. But assuming that hurdle is cleared, Leary hopes to break ground by "September or October," he said.

The homes would likely be completed by "late spring or early summer" 2017, he added.

A real estate broker associated with the project estimated that the homes would go on the market for between $1.2 million and $1.5 million.
