
SOUTH CHICAGO — A 23-year-old woman died after a drive-by shooting in South Chicago early Wednesday morning, police said.
At 12:05 a.m., the woman was walking in the 8700 block of South Burley Avenue when someone shot at her from a passing black SUV, according to a police incident report.
The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition after being shot in her chest, police said. She later was pronounced dead.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman as Africa S. Bass, of the same block.
A possible offender is in custody, police said.
