LOGAN SQUARE — The owners of the newest coffee shop in Logan Square hope to fill a gap in a neighborhood they contend doesn't have enough places where you can find a decent cup of coffee.

Damn Fine Coffee Bar opened quietly this week at 3317 W. Armitage Ave. and has plans for a grand opening Friday.

"For as long as I've been in the neighborhood, there's never been decent coffee nearby," said Jude Goergen, one of four co-owners of the new shop.

The coffee shop has been in the works for about three years, according to Goergen.

Josh Miller, who is running the coffee program, chose Halfwit Coffee Roasters as the house roast and plans to bring in a new roaster from around the country each month.

"I just want to make good coffee," he said.

The other two owners are Dan Murphy and Michael Blum.

While high quality coffee will be the focus, the team hopes the shop will have a neighborhood vibe.

"We think it'd be awesome to be the neighborhood spot," Miller said. "... I'd also like to be a destination."

The coffee shop will be serving pastries from Pleasant House Bakery and plans to add Charcuterie and cheese plate options in the near future.

As for the name, it is a slight nod to the cult tv show "Twin Peaks."
