STREETERVILLE — Rosebud Restaurants hopes to open a new Italian eatery off the Mag Mile, one with pizza and an outdoor patio.

The owner of the Residence Inn Mag Mile, 201 E. Walton Place, filed a zoning application with City Hall last week allowing a new restaurant open to the public.

And Deanna Williams, a spokeswoman for the Washington-based hotel brand, said the Rosebud plans to open there "in the early fall." The planned restaurant even has a tentative name: "East Side Taverna."

Once open, the restaurant would serve "classic Italian pizza" and have about 150 seats including the sidewalk patio, Williams said.

The restaurant would be the ninth for Rosebud, which is known mostly for its restaurants of the same name as well as Carmine's at State and Rush streets. Alex Dana, Rosebud's owner, opened an independent restaurant in the Gold Coast called Tip Top Inn earlier this year

Christine Lock Bachman, a Rosebud spokeswoman, confirmed the company is "in talks" with the Mag Mile hotel, but nothing has been finalized. Much depends on how city officials view the hotel's zoning application, which has yet to be approved.

"They are going through the zoning process to find out what can be done in that area," Bachman said in an email.

The hotel property is owned by Hospitality Properties Trust, a Newton, Mass.-based real estate investment firm. Ethan Bornstein, the HPT executive who filed the zoning application for the company last week, did not return a message seeking comment.
