CHICAGO — A driver for Uber has been charged with having a gun and pot in his car while driving in Uptown, police said.
At 3:25 p.m. Friday, officers stopped Chad Pilcher, 41, in the 1100 block of West Foster Avenue when they saw him driving without a seatbelt, according to a Chicago Police news release. Pilcher's car smelled strongly of pot, police said.
The officers found a handgun with its serial number defaced in the car, police said.
Police arrested Pilcher and he has been charged with gun and cannabis offenses, police said. He was also cited for not wearing a seat belt.
It was determined that Pilcher was operating as an Uber driver, police said.
Uber, which has a zero-tolerance policy for drug use and prohibits guns, said Pilcher has been banned from using the app.
